One Last Hunt is a galaxy-spanning sci-fi adventure conceived during my second attempt at the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) challenge and has been near and dear to my heart ever since. Science Fiction has been a guilty pleasure of mine since the first time I saw Star Wars: A New Hope many, many years ago. One Last Hunt was inspired by universes that creators like George Lucas and Joss Whedon have constructed. In an attempt to pay homage to what those universes have done for me over the years One Last Hunt explores elements of alien worlds and civilizations, overbearing and out of control government organizations and the societies we create as our culture assimilates with others. But, to really be influenced by some of the greats, there’s one thing that the story had to be about: family. At its heart, One Last Hunt is a story about family–through blood or bond–and trying to get by in a ruthless time.
Throughout his many years, Marcus Draper has been a mercenary, a marine, a bounty hunter, and most unexpectedly, a father. In his heart, he’s torn between being one of the best hunters in the business and protecting his adopted daughter, Shawna, by keeping her far away from a dangerous life of chasing warrants. They’ve made a simple life on their ship, The Lucky Gambit, and while the larger–more profitable–bounties would provide a bit of relief to their bank account, the two of them had everything they thought they ever needed, right there on board.
After completing yet another routine–“safe and easy”–job, the resurgence of an old friend will drag them both into the most dangerous competition in the galaxy, chasing down some of the most notorious criminals in the verse. The winner of the competition will be crowned the greatest hunter in the galaxy and recieve unfathomable riches. They will never have to work another day in their life.
For the winner of this competition, it will be the Last Hunt they’ll ever need…
One Last Hunt is coming soon in both print and digital editions!
